Friday June 2nd 2017- Los Angeles, CA~ the midyear edition of Golden Boy Promotions’ L.A Fight Club.  The card which featured an array of Oscar De La Hoya’s Prospects, was set to feature Azat Hovhannisyan 11-2 (10 KO’s) vs. Isao Carranza 15-8-1 (8 KO’s) from Mexico City in an 8 round Featherweight main event.

The main event began with both fighters trading shots, while Carranza began to employ a boxer-puncher style, Hovhannisyan trailed him and managed to land some shots while locked in the exchanges.  Both fighters began a tactical match picking their shots, while at times unloading barrages of shots on their opponent.  By the 3rd round, Hovhannisyan looked comfortable in his aggressive approach.  Carranza remained very active and at times successful, but Hovhannisyan was dictating the pace with every attack.  The middle rounds continued with Hovhannisyan pushing forward as Carranza stood his ground, but the bounce in his step slowed as the heavy shots continued to penetrate.

Through 7 rounds, Carranza was not deterred by Hovhannisyan’s attack which grew increasingly effective.  Hovhannisyan closed the show with a boxing show on Carranza who never lost his will but rather did so in the exchanges.  Carranza’s attempts to let off on Hovhannisyan ended with the latter unloading heavy combinations at will.  At the end of 8 rounds of boxing the unanimous decision is awarded to Azat Hovhannisyan with scores of 80-72 X3.

The co-main event featured Welterweight Alexis Rocha 7-0 (5 KO’s) from Santa Ana, Ca vs. Cesar Valenzuela 7-0 (2 KO’s) from El Paso, TX.  From the opening bell, Rocha set the tone with a subtle jab that allowed him to set up his left hook and uppercut.  as Valenzuela attempted to box, Rocha found openings primarily with his power left hand shots that stunned Valenzuela often. The pace continued through the middle rounds as Valenzuela continued to take Rocha’s power shots.  After 8 rounds of action, Alexis Rocha grabs the unanimous decision victory with scores of 80-72 X3.

In the TV opener, Niko Valdes improves to 6-0 (5 KO’s) with a TKO victory over Ernesto Berrospe from Guadalajara MX.

In a 6 round Featherweight match Tenochtitlan Nava wins a tough close fight via unanimous decision, to improve to 6-0 (1 KO) vs a very game Christian Renteria .  The fight was closely contested, with many on press row having Renteria up in the scorecards.  The official judges had it, 60-54, 59-55 and 58-56 for Nava.

In opening night action, Jousce Gonzalez from Glendora CA, improved to 5-0 (5 KO’s) with a knockout victory over Daniel Bastien 4-5 from Monterrey MX.
